Nightstands

One of the most important rooms in your home, the bedroom should be the place you go to get a good night’s sleep, read a good book or simply relax when you need a mental break. Whether you’re refurnishing your bedroom piece by piece or just moved into a new home or apartment and want an all-new look, modern and contemporary retro styles bring a lot of flair and personality to a room. Your bedroom should be your sanctuary, and a room you look forward to going to at the end of the day. Once your bed and its frame have been chosen, it’s time to concentrate on dressers, and nightstands. A dresser is the obvious choice when you want to store clothing, but a nightstand has so many purposes in the room. For the best in modern and contemporary nightstands, west elm has all you need to complete your bedroom ensemble.

A common issue when buying a separate nightstand is matching it to complement the existing decor and furniture. However, there are plenty of options available to you so that matching isn’t a problem. Perhaps first decide whether you’d like the nightstand to contrast or match the existing furniture. For example, a dresser that’s natural wood in color with a white trim would look perfect with an all-white nightstand. Alternatively, a dresser with a white finish looks wonderful with a black nightstand in the room, especially if much of the surrounding decor is black and white as well. Remember, the nightstand won’t be a focal point in the room, so you have a bit of leeway in the colors and styles you choose, giving you even more options.

Think about what you will be using your nightstand for too. If reading in bed is an enjoyable hobby, you’ll want a nightstand you can perfectly situate next to your bed, with a height that allows you to place a reading light. If your nightstand is primarily for storage, perhaps where you keep your remotes, chargers, keys or glasses, then you may prefer a nightstand with two to three drawers, so you can safely store your items. If your nightstand will double as a side table to show off decorative items, you might want to opt for a one that has one drawer for storage and one open space in which you can display decorative items.

It’s also a good idea to keep in mind that a nightstand goes well in other parts of the house and isn’t limited to just your bedroom. Place one in your home office for extra storage or extra counter space, or add one to your mudroom or foyer for the same reasons. A nightstand easily doubles as a side or accent table, and works well in most rooms in the home.
