Cotton Curtains

Choosing the right pair of curtains can enliven a room or living space when you consider all of the different types of drapes available to complement the existing feel of a room. Color is one of the most important attributes, as curtains are much more than just functional. They are often representative of the decorative feel of the entire room, setting the tone with a formal or informal ambience. Color has many possibilities, and can add warmth or brightness to a room just based on the shade.

One of the most useful materials to consider when choosing curtains is cotton. Soft to the touch, cotton is a durable, long-lasting material that works well in nearly any area, adding sheerness or sophistication to the bedroom or offering functionality and elegance to the living room. It’s also important to note that cotton is one of the easiest materials to maintain when it comes to curtains. If you have young children or pets, hanging up curtains that are washable is a must, and having curtains that are able to withstand repeated washings is a huge benefit. Depending on thread count, cotton curtains can also be very sheer or very thick, allowing for multiple uses. Opt for sheerer curtains in a kitchen or mudroom to let the light shine in, or choose thicker cotton in a bedroom if you want to avoid the morning sun and sleep in. Because it is a very versatile material, cotton curtains are a great addition to your home.

west elm offers many styles and colors of cotton curtains to complement existing wallpaper and paneling, as well as other decor already in your home. Choose from attention-getting patterns that draw the eye to the window area, or choose solid colors that simply complement the existing color scheme. Keep in mind when choosing colors that darker curtains may contrast well against lighter walls, while lighter curtains contrast well against dark walls. Neutral colors, such as grays, off-whites and beiges, do well in most color schemes. Depending on the tone of a beige color, a degree of warmth is often added to the room. Beige cotton curtains, for example, work well in a home office or den, complementing cherry and mahogany furniture. Cotton is also an excellent choice for a child’s room or nursery. Choose from bright, vibrant colors to add both warmth and fun to an already joyful space.
