We worked with world-renowned designer John Vogel to create pieces featuring his signature organic shapes and woven seats inspired by traditional riempie weaving. "South Africa is full of beautiful plants and landscapes that influence my work. I like creating connections between nature and people," John explains.

John Vogel Furniture Collaboration

The John Vogel furniture collaboration is a collection of furniture designed with a South African edge and a contemporary vibe. It is a combination of elements from nature and people with artistic expression. Stools, chairs and tables have practical uses with decorative accents to enhance the room where they are placed. Handwork features and eccentric detail make each piece stand out.

Bar and counter stools have curved backs for anatomic comfort, solid wood frames and hand-woven seats. The bar stool seat measures at 31.3 inches in height. The counter stool is a few inches shorter at 27.2 inches high. Sit back and relax while you sip a cocktail poured into elegant glassware. Glasses with funky shapes and gorgeous etchings seem to be in keeping with the organic South African furniture designs. A mojito, a Brandy Alexander or a Dark and Stormy just taste better served in one of these glasses. Consider having a bar cart to keep bar supplies and tools at your fingertips. Wheels on the bottom make it easy to move around to where you need it inside or out. You might prefer one that stays put without wheels. Shelves allow you to store bottles, glasses, corkscrews and cocktail shakers.

The trestle console table has solid oak legs and a wood top with an oak veneer coating. The piece is easy to clean by using a soft, dry cloth to wipe up any spills. The table is ideal for an entryway or foyer. Or place it behind a sofa centered in the room. Put a table lamp on the table for subdued lighting. An etched glass table lamp is simply beautiful. The asymmetrical lamp is abstract in design and looks really cool displayed on a table. We also have a ceramic nature geo lamp and a tall clear disc lamp at west elm that both work well. Consider placing a lamp at each end of the table. The ambient light will brighten the area and provide essential lighting at night.

Hang an artsy mirror over the table to reflect the entrance. Asymmetrical mirrors and diamond faceted ones are distinctive accent mirrors that are artwork in themselves. The tree ring mirror and overlapping diamonds would be great conversation starters. The overlapping diamonds are laid out horizontally and would stretch across the length of the console table.

The chair in this collection has a signature webbed seat that is handwoven in a deep charcoal color. The seat height measures at 19.4 inches. It has an ergonomic curved back that is both comfortable and stunning. The chair is constructed of a solid wood frame with an acorn finish. A metallic, pedestal or martini side table could be situated beside the chair to hold drinks, collectibles and books. Round, hexagonal and rectangular shapes are architectural in design and can fit beside the chair as needed based on your space. This makes a super area for reading, conversing with friends or simply relaxing at the end of the work day.

Top off the decor in the room with a botanical arrangement of faux boxwood topiaries or succulents in planters. This adds another bit of nature to the decor, which is very fitting to the natural details in the furniture line. A vase of dried eucalyptus stems, a fiddle leaf fig branch or an earthy grapewood branch would be an excellent accent to a fireplace mantel or bookshelf. The faux varieties of botanicals are virtually no maintenance, so are very easy to maintain and will last forever. Just dust them off with a cloth as needed.
