Mid-Century Dining Room Furniture

Mid-century dining room furniture sets the stage for comfort and style. Sleek designs and retro fittings celebrate a fabulous era.

A buffet made of mango wood works as a sideboard or a console table. Four drawers and a cabinet provide storage for extra dishes and table linens in the dining room or DVDs, CDs and remotes in a den. A larger buffet provides even more storage. Hang a funky mirror over the buffet to reflect the beauty of the furniture and to add depth to the room. Contemporary mirrors are framed in various types of metal and come in out-of-the-ordinary shapes like hexagon, asymmetrical and recessed. Mirror placement is classic for making a space seem larger.

What do you think of a dining table with a wooden frame and clear glass top? This is such an awesome table that makes entertaining a pleasure. An all wood dining table with a streamlined construction is another one that suits the architectural preferences of mid-century. An abstract centerpiece made of lava rock, petrified wood or kinetic brass on a stand would be an amazing complement to either of these tables.

Upholstered chairs or wooden designs make seating comfortable at the table. The designs pair well with the table and the buffet for a professional urban look. Arm chairs are great at the ends of the table. Some of the styles have a sloped back for lumbar comfort.

Set up a bar for entertaining with a stationary bar cabinet or movable cart with wheels. Our copper bar tools at west elm make a great addition to the bar. A copper shaker mixes up martinis and mojitos. An elegant jigger measures appropriately, and the bottle opener easily opens a beer. Leave the set out when you aren’t using it as it looks shiny and decorative in keeping with the rest of the room. And it will be handy when you need it. Keep the bar tools organized on a tray made of wood or a mirrored tray. There are several lacquered trays in various colors and shapes to choose from too. A tray makes it easy to move the bar tools as necessary from bar to table or counter.

When your friends are hanging out in your dining room, throw some retro tunes on for a festive and nostalgic evening. Good food, music and cocktails in a beautifully-decorated room make for a grand occasion.
