Small Dressers

Can a small bedroom feel spacious? Definitely. There are a couple ways to make it happen. One is to go with a less-is-more layout, keeping the amount furniture and decor to a minimum. It gives the room a clean and fresh ambience, but can still be luxurious, artistic or rustic. Neutral colors – white bedrooms seem bigger – and decorating with mirrors are possibilities too. Narrow and tall bookcases, nesting tables and small dressers are also a big help. Of course, at west elm we know that size isn’t the only thing you’re looking for. Our bedroom furniture is expressive from a design standpoint, so it’s easy to find pieces that match your creative vision for the room. Looking for some practical decorating tips using small dressers? Here are a few ideas.

Dressers usually have two purposes: storage and style. The amount of storage space you need depends on you. There’s also nothing wrong with having more than one dresser if you want extra room to keep bedding, clothes or other items you use frequently. Besides the bed, your dresser is one of the objects in the room that help create its overall vibe. Reclaimed wood dressers, for example, make a space feel warm, inviting, intimate, fresh and natural. Shiny dressers, on the other hand, have Paris fashion written all over them.

One way to save space in a small bedroom is to choose a narrow dresser with a lot of drawers. That way you take advantage of vertical area while still having plenty of room to walk around. Another benefit of this kind of dresser is it fits nicely into open spaces in the room, like a corner or beside a window. If your room has a connected bathroom in the center of a wall, placing a pair of dressers – one on either side – balances things out, looks great and gives you a couple of spots for art, decorative objects or a propped up painting. It’s totally OK to go with a different vignette above each dresser.

Small dressers often fit neatly next to the bed, basically doubling as nightstands with extra storage. The top surface easily holds a lamp for nighttime reading and relaxation, as well as a charger to keep your electronic devices close by and ready to go in the morning. Photos and flowers put a big smile on your face when you wake up. If you prefer a larger dresser, you can always place it at the foot of the bed to save space.

Where should you put your dresser? That’s completely up to you. A balanced arrangement looks nice against a colorful accent wall – maybe with a canvas hanging above your headboard – but many modern layouts feature uneven spacing. If you want to keep your bed near one wall and have your dresser and a desk propped up against the opposite side – creating a walkway perfect for a rug – go for it.
