Small Space Dining Furniture, Counter Stools and Eat-In Kitchen Furniture

Living in a cozy condo, apartment or house doesn't mean you can't go big on style. With the right small space dining furniture, counter stools and small space kitchen tables and chairs, you can create a fabulous look that belongs on the pages of a design magazine.

Small Space Dining Furniture

Whether you have a formal dining room or an open floor plan that you need to define with the right dining table, choosing the right piece for entertaining and family dinners is essential. Expandable tables - those with drop leaves and those with removable leaves - are a great choice. You can make them larger when you're entertaining and shrink them back down to size when you're not and if you later find yourself in a larger space, you won't need to invest in a larger table.

Pro Tip: If you're using a dining table to define space, choose a patterned rug to put beneath it. The rug will create a visually separate space without interrupting your open floor plan.

Counter Stools

Counter stools are a great way to get more use from your kitchen - particularly if a bar top divides it from your living room, dining room or breakfast nook. Choose counter stools without backs to keep a streamlined look or those with backs to create a more relaxed, casual vibe. Keep these tips in mind when you're choosing counter stools:

  • Pick stools that are around 18 inches from floor to seat if your counter or table ranges between 28 and 30 inches high.
  • Opt for stools that are between 24 and 26 inches from floor to seat if your counter is 36 to 39 inches high.
  • Choose bar stools, which are the tallest you'll find, that measure 28 to 30 inches high if your counter is taller than 39 inches.

Small Space Kitchen Table and Chair Sets

Bistro tables and small dining tables are incredibly popular choices for small kitchens because they don't take up too much floor space - but they can provide plenty of style and surface space for family meals. Choosing a table and chair set is usually the best option when you want to optimize your space, although you can mix-and-match chairs and benches to create visual variety and, in some cases, increase your seating capacity.

Storage Cabinets for Small Dining Rooms and Kitchens

A well-placed storage cabinet can make a world of difference in a small home. Ideal for china and extra serveware for entertaining, cabinets can double as console tables to create a powerful style statement.

Small spaces need furnishings to match, so whether you're outfitting a breakfast nook, a dining room or an open space that you need to define without walls, the right tables, chairs and stools can make a tremendous impact.
