5 Creative Ways to Hang Christmas Stockings

Most people hang their Christmas stockings on a mantle, but what if you don't even have a fireplace? Fortunately, there are many other creative ways to display your holiday stockings. Get inspired with these unique decorating ideas using items that can be purchased at west elm.

Use Holders

The most obvious solution for hanging Christmas stockings when you don't have a fireplace is to use Christmas stocking holders. Holders come in many forms, from wall hooks to over-the-door holders. Looking for a solution that doesn't require nails or screws? There are also weighted stocking holders that can be placed on a ledge or bookshelf. Our Antlers Stocking Holder is a great choice that also works well on its own as a Christmas ornament.

Hang Stockings from Garlands and String Lights

Another way to decorate with stockings is to incorporate them into your other Christmas decorations. You could, for example, hang a row of stockings from a wall-mounted Christmas garland or a set of string lights. Use clothespins to hold the stockings in place. If the stockings are too heavy to be hung with clothespins, use heavy-duty carpentry clamps instead.

Hang Stockings from Existing Fixtures

If space is tight, consider taking advantage of your home's built-in features. Window sills and stair railings are excellent places to hang Christmas stockings. You can also hang stockings from a curtain rod, a kitchen island or the edge of a cabinet.

Hang Stockings from a Decorative Ladder

Decorative ladders have a multitude of uses, one of which is displaying holiday decorations. Hang your stockings on the sides of the ladder, and fill the rungs with holiday-themed accents, Christmas cards, and other festive items.

Install a Wall Shelf

Wall shelves have many practical uses, so why not go ahead and install one to hold your Christmas stockings? A floating shelf placed halfway up the wall will help you recreate the look and feel of a mantle, even if you don't own a fireplace. Hang a garland over the shelf or along its edge to give your home an even cozier feel. Once the holidays are over, you can use the shelf to display family photos, mementos, books or candles.

Above are just a few of the many ways to hang Christmas stockings without a fireplace. Need more inspiration? Browse our selection of stocking holders and hooks to find the perfect solution for your home.
