rules of thumb for matchmaking

1.

Measure! The standard table height is about 30", but some have an apron beneath the top. If a chair has arms, make sure they’ll fit under the apron.

2.

Upholstered chairs can be more comfortable, but wooden chairs are easier to keep clean (especially with kids!).

3.

It’s easier to mix two different materials, such as an upholstered chair with a wood table, than it is to mix two different wood or metal finishes.

4.

If you’re pairing different woods, a good rule of thumb is to opt for a darker finish on the chairs.
